While pictures can break up
blocks of text and add interest, our own experiences in using the internet for research, and feedback from users of sites we have designed, have
convinced us that internet users are turned off by highly graphic sites that
take a long time to load. They use the internet to find information -
fast!
Highly coloured pages can be difficult to read. If a potential customer finds
useful information and wants to print it off, they won't bother if it's going to
take all day and use all the ink in their printer.
Pictures should only be included if they add
value to the information contained. They must be good, clear pictures and
they must not be too big - we optimise all photos so they look good but download
quickly.
Ease of navigation is essential - the information
your customer wants to find should be no more than two 'clicks' from your home
page (and he should be able to see where to look easily.)
